BioSonics have been designing and manufacturing scientific echosounders for almost 40 years. Based in Seattle, Washington, BioSonics pioneered the application of hydroacoustic technology to monitor biological resources, and can now offer solutions for monitoring both biological and physical features in virtually any aquatic environment worldwide.
BioSonics offers unique and innovative solutions to monitor fish passage and assess behavioral impacts on aquatic animals including marine mammals, fish, and diving birds. BioSonics sonar systems are often installed in fixed-position deployments to observe the underwater environment over a period of weeks, months or even years at a time. Such long-term observations are essential in monitoring changes in the behaviour and for assessing fluctuations in the abundance of aquatic animals.
Applications for this technology include water intakes, marine and hydrokinetic turbine installations, spillways, screens, and fish bypass structures where concerns are raised about the impacts of operations on aquatic species.
BioSonics hardware, software and accessories are field proven, versatile, and optimised for maximum flexibility, reliability and ease of operation. Their products include:
The DT-X Extreme is an innovative and versatile echosounder system that expands your data collection opportunities. Operate the DT-X Extreme as a portable system for mobile surveys, or as a fully autonomous system, ideal for ASV/USV surveys, surface buoys and other unmanned deployments, or for fixed location monitoring applications. The DT-X Extreme produces accurate, high resolution water column data and results for fisheries management and research, to study communities of biological organisms and physical elements of marine and freshwater ecosystems, including fish schools and individuals, plankton, nekton, mammals, birds, debris, oil droplets, gas bubbles and more.
The DT-X SUB is a completely autonomous self-contained echosounder solution for deployments where cabling to the surface may be impractical. Packaged in a pressure-rated housing, DT-X SUB can be deployed on an AUV, ROV, or seafloor observatory platform. Ideal for longterm studies
DT-X AMS Automated Monitoring Systems are designed for fixed location, long-term or permanent deployments to observe the underwater environment over a period of weeks, months or even years at a time. DT-X AMS can be customized to monitor and automatically report on passage, migration and entrainment of fish, marine mammals and debris at cooling water intakes, dams, marine hydrokinetic projects, spillways, screens, fish bypass and other structures.
A complete Aquatic Habitat Echosounder System lets you simultaneously acquire submerged aquatic vegetation, substrate, and bathymetry data using Visual Acquisition software and instantly create layered, coloured and contoured maps using Visual Habitat software.
