In addition to equipment sales in Australia, MSI has also been a provider of meteorological and oceanographic (metocean) services worldwide for over 15 years.
The main portfolio of services offered by MSI include:
Metocean Services International (MSI) was formed in September 2003 by Stefan Stimson, Sidney Bilski and Bruce Spolander, former colleagues at a major survey multi-national (Thales GeoSolutions) where they were responsible for the overall management, marketing and operations of the global metocean business. After 3 years of steady growth, MSI opened an office in Australia to support projects in the Australia and Asia region.
The management team has over 50 years experience in the offshore oil and gas industry, and is supported by a dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced engineers with vast global experience. From offices in South Africa and Australia, the company has conducted projects in over 50 countries worldwide, with 140+ clients that include the offshore oil & gas market, coastal engineers, dredging companies and port authorities.
MSI continuously invests in state of the art instrumentation and owns and operates a large pool of equipment, including wave buoys, current meters / profilers, tide gauges, CTDs and weather stations. The company works with all the leading manufacturers to ensure the most suitable equipment is used for each project.
Both MSI’s offices operate ISO-certified Quality Management Systems, and their HSE Management System complies with OGP and NORSOK requirements. This ensures that all clients, whether supermajor oil company, construction firm or local engineering consultant, receive the high level of service and safety expected of a specialist in metocean data collection.
The core MSI portfolio of services include:
Current, Wave & Tide Data Collection
Tailor made solutions for the collection of current, wave and tidal data, along with the collection of water and sediment samples for lab analysis. This includes in-situ and real-time measurement systems and in both shallow and deep water environments <more info>
Meteorological Data Collection
Collection of the full complement of meteorological parameters, both onshore and offshore, for operational and design purposes <more info>
Integrated Systems, with Live Data Display
Customised integration of industry standard ‘off the shelf’ equipment as part of a larger metocean system. In addition to the sensor integration, inclusion of communications systems including radio (VHF or UHF), GSM or satellite (e.g. Iridium, Orbcomm, Argos) ransmission systems allow for real-time data collection <more info>
Metocean Data Processing & Reporting
Data quality control, processing, analysis and reporting of data (either MSI or client collected) using Matlab-based suite of software, presenting results in any client determined format <more info>
Metocean Desktop Studies
Review of existing data in the form of a desktop study as a cost effective alternative or precursor to a physical measurement program <more info>
Marine Weather Forecasting
Provision of accurate site specific and tow route weather forecasts globally in support of offshore operations. Variables forecast typically include wind (speed and direction), air temperature, barometric pressure and waves (height, period and direction) <more info>
